The Future Isn't So Far, Far Away Anymore

It's every fanboy's dream to wield an actual lightsaber. Well according to Dr. Michio Kaku, host of the Science Channel's Sci-Fi Science, a lightsaber is actually not all that impossible.

On the show, he stated that all the materials needed for his version of a lightsaber already existed here on earth and "only required an upgrade." In his more plausible version of the Jedi's signature weapon, a lightsaber consisted of a blade made of superheated plasma enclosed by a magnetic field. Dr. Kaku even made sure to include that the weapon would hum and buzz just like the blades from the films.

If all goes as planned, the weapon could be available for all Sci-Fi warriors in less than 50 years. Who knows, if the lightsaber truly becomes real, then maybe the wars of the future would no longer be fought with reckless guns, but with elegant blades of light.
