The hordes of obsessives who gather in San Diego each summer dressed as hobbits and “Star Wars” storm troopers may soon have to find another place to do it, at least if they want to do so in the company of thousands of like-minded fans. The San Diego Comic-Con International, the 40-year-old event that has evolved into a required pit stop for film studios, television networks and comics publishers who are preparing geek-friendly projects, could leave its longtime home base after 2012, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Prominent Star Wars author, John Jackson Miller, introduces Star Wars: Knight Errant arriving on shelves this fall, according to a Dark Horse press release.
A novel will accompany the comic-series with the same characters and is set in the same time period.
The series takes place one thousand years before Episode I place during the "Dark Age of the Republic" when the Sith were in a position of power and the Republic displaced. This period of time hasn't been explored until now.
According to the press release, Miller says the Sith Lords wouldn't just be in conflict with the Republic, but also amongst each other. This is a wide-open area to explore. The main character is Jedi Kerra Holt who finds out her role in the galaxy is far more important than she could ever imagine.
Miller added, "Kerra's going to find that good intentions just may not be enough in a galaxy gone mad!"
Comic-series editor Dave Marshall added, "With John writing both the comics and the novel, Knight Errant will be a Star Wars story on a scale we've never undertaken before. This will be a first-of-its-kind opportunity to introduce the Expanded Universe of the Dark Horse comics to the fans of the Del Rey novels and vice versa!”
We will keep you updated when when more information and official previews are released.

Denver-based director Alexandre Philippe isn’t surprised to hear George Lucas talk of re-releasing the “Star Wars” films in 3-D.
“On the heels of the massive success of ’Avatar’ it makes a lot of sense,” says Philippe, the director of the upcoming documentary “The People vs. George Lucas.” “It’s been in the air for a while now.”
And he‘ll be one of many movie goers in line should Lucas carry through with his plans.
